Deane™
Founded in March 2002, Christopher
Deane™ was created by designers and friends Christopher Crawford and Angela
Deane. Christopher Deane™ specializes in a collection of graceful and distinctive
dresses, tops and skirts with whimsical and subtle feminine detailing. Inspired
by color, twilight and cityscapes, Christopher Deane's™ contemporary collection
has quickly established itself as one of New York's most admired young labels.
Christopher Deane™ enjoys an
immense celebrity following and has achieved extensive coverage in multiple
top fashion magazines including Elle, Flaunt, Nylon, Lucky, WWD and W. Based
in Brooklyn, New York, Christopher Deane™ is available at Neiman Marcus, Saks
Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale's, Anthropologie, Harvey Nichols, and Intermix, along
with over one hundred specialty stores Stateside and abroad.
About the
Designers
Both graduates of The University
of Florida, Christopher Crawford and Angela Deane met in an Art class while
engaged in a serious battle of self-portraits. Mr. Crawford, a classic over-achiever,
pinned up dozens of sketches while Ms. Deane, older and sometimes misread as
aloof, conceded and doled out compliments about his work. The two became fast
friends and have always bonded over their shared love of thrifting.
Post-University life found Mr.
Crawford working with Teach for America in Compton, California and Ms. Deane
in London, England working with the Hayvend Art Troupe. After returning to Florida
for a brief stint, the duo relocated to New York in 2001. After holding various
occupations in the fashion industry and art world, the duo began to collaborate
on business ideas. Although neither had any formal training, Mr. Crawford's
inventive sewing skills and keen mind for business paired with Ms. Deane's style
and creative determination led to the opening of their first boutique. Early
experiences at their store, No. 436, taught Mr. Crawford and Ms. Deane fit and
silhouette and also introduced a pattern maker with whom they still work today.
In March of 2002, Christopher Deane came to life.
Six years later, Christopher
Deane™ has outgrown the petite flagship boutique in New York's East Village
and in the spring of 2008, Mr. Crawford and Ms. Deane proudly moved into a new
space in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The twelve hundred foot storefront serves as
the duo's official headquarters; including an office and boutique.
